Certified Nurse Aide

Nurse Aides perform routine duties in caring for patients or residents and is a vital member on the healthcare team. Nurse Aides assist their clients with activities of daily living like, bathing, eating, and maintaining their safety. Care tasks are delegated by the Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). This course meets New York State requirements for a training course for Nurse Aide professionals. The course includes 95 hours of classroom and practice sessions along with 30 hours of clinical instruction in an approved acute care or long -term care setting. Many RNs and LPNs were nurse aides or home health aides, they then use their training as a stepping stone for continued education and growth in healthcare and their careers.


You will learn the fundamentals of:

  • communication and interpersonal skills
  • infection control
  • safety and emergency procedures
  • residents rights and maintaining functional independence
  • personal care skills
  • basic nursing skills
  • mental health and social service needs
  • care of the cognitively impaired residents
  • basic restorative services
  • the restrain free environment
  • legal issues and health care

This is taken in 4 sessions of 7 ½ - 8 hours each. This may be done in 1 – 4 weeks on a schedule agreed upon by the student and instructor prior to the start of clinicals. The clinical externship program is offered Monday through Sunday from 7:30am – 3:30pm or during the regular work shift of the affiliating facility. State testing is done by Prometric or other NY State approved testing center. There is currently $115.00 in a nursing home charge for the practical and written parts of this test. The fee is paid at the time of testing in the form of a money order. This test must be taken and passed by the student in order to be employed in a health care facility, private home, or employment agency as a Certified Nurse Aide.

Total instructional hours = 125 hrs. (95hrs over 10 weeks, plus clinicals). Deposit at registration $200.00, this includes the nonrefundable registration fee and supplies fee.

Schedules

Class schedules: Monday through Thursday - (mornings) 9am – 12noon, or (afternoons) 1pm – 4pm or (evenings) 6pm – 9pm.

Saturdays & Sundays: (days) 9am – 5pm for 10 weeks

Fast track class schedule: Monday – Friday (days) 9am – 5pm for 4 weeks
